For those who have been to the SilverKris lounge at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi lounge until recently would know, it was in desperate need of refurbishment, especially compared to its new lounge updates at Sydney, London Heathrow, Manila, Hong Kong, and especially at its home in Singapore. Well, as of 11 May, a new SilverKris lounge is open and it looks beautiful! From Singapore Airlines’ Twitter account, here are some picture of the new lounge:
I was excited to see that Singapore Airlines continued putting in their small “padded desk pods” in their new Bangkok lounge (can anyone come up with a better name for these)? As a somewhat antisocial person, I love being able to do work from one of these pods, away from everyone else.
It is also good to see that they have put in a proper bar, as they only had self-service drinks in their old Bangkok lounge. There are roughly 6 daily flights from Bangkok to Singapore, so it is good to see that these passengers will all have a significantly upgraded experience.
The new lounge is located in the D concourse, opposite gate D7, which is far more convenient location than the old lounge. For those that know it, it was in an out of the way place, and was quite a walk from immigration. Perhaps my only concern is the lounge being overcrowded as it will be *far* nicer than the rather outdated Thai Airways lounge and a good bit nicer than the EVA Airways lounge as well. All Star Gold passengers will have access to it, which makes up a lot of people, especially at peak hours.
This is a substantial upgrade for all Star Alliance Gold/business class travelers originating from Bangkok. I hope Thai Airways is inspired to upgrade their own lounge offerings in response.
