The Autograph Collection is a collection of fully independent properties under the Marriott brand name. As they are a complete member of the Marriott brand, you can expect full Marriott Rewards benefits, which is a really great aspect of the brand. It can be nice to stay at more unique properties, as opposed to the regular Marriott or JW Marriott branded hotels, while still getting full benefits. Starwood has a similar brand called the Tribute Portfolio, which operates in the same way, as does Hilton with their Curio brand.
As of January 2017, the Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur has become part of the Autograph Collection by Marriott. In addition, a new hotel, Hotel Stripes, has been added as an Autograph Collection property.
Long being an iconic luxury hotel in Kuala Lumpur, the Majestic has perhaps felt the heat of a host of new competitors in the city, including a new St. Regis and a refurbished Ritz Carlton. The Majestic is one I have long wanted to get to, though it is difficult for me to pass up the Le Meridien and St. Regis, as two of my favourite Starwood hotels. By joining the Autograph Collection, the Majestic will be able to take advantage of Marriott’s massive loyalty program and its members. While I don’t love the location of the hotel, I would definitely try it next time in in KL.
The other addition to the Autograph Collection is the Hotel Stripes which is located in the Chow Kit neighbourhood. This is a new hotel, having just opened in May. The hotel “features a distinctive vibe and character with a different perspective on the local scene mixed with a bit of edgy style and adventure.” I am not entirely sure what that means, though will definitely be giving it a try next time I’m in the city.
The Stripes looks like an excellent addition to the already impressive collection of luxury hotels in Kuala Lumpur. With its addition to the Autograph Collection, I look forward to finally trying out the Majestic as well. Do you plan on trying either property?
