New SilverKris Lounge in Bangkok Is Open!

For those who have been to the SilverKris lounge at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi lounge until recently would know, it was in desperate need of refurbishment, especially compared to its new lounge updates at Sydney, London Heathrow, Manila, Hong Kong, and especially at its home in Singapore. Well, as of 11 May, a new SilverKris lounge is open and it looks beautiful! From Singapore Airlines’ Twitter account, here are some picture of the new lounge:

Low-cost Scoot has been steadily expanding in the past few years, having recently announced Athens, Greece flights. They are now expanding even further with their application for service to Honolulu, Hawaii via Osaka, Japan from Singapore. Please note: this route is not confirmed, rather they have just applied for service from the United States Department of Transportation. They aim to start the flights in the second half of 2017. You may be thinking, why does this route sound familiar? Well, it just so happens that Air Asia is also launching this route (originating in Kuala Lumpur), starting 28 June.

New Route Rumoured: Asia to Miami, Florida

Per a recent article in The Next Miami magazine, there is talk about a new airline starting a route from east Asia to Miami within “the next 24 months.” Since this route would be too far from southern/southeast Asia, we can safely assume it is a Chinese, Hong Kong, Taiwanese, Korean or Japanese airline operating the route. As Miami is a hub for American Airlines, we can further speculate that Japan Airlines may be the one starting the route as they are the only One World carrier to operate within these areas.

Qatar Airways Is Building A New Bangkok Lounge!

Qatar Airways has a sizable presence at Bangkok with up to 5 daily departures from Bangkok to Doha, as well as a tag on flight from Bangkok to Hanoi. Unfortunately, up until now, Qatar Airways has used the Thai Airways Royal Orchid lounge which is… not up to Qatar’s usual standard. It is not bad, but it is aging rapidly and can be very crowded at night especially. It’s food selection is below par as well.

Well, it looks like Qatar Airways will be improving their ground experience at Bangkok. […]

Hotel Review: Makati Shangri-La

I had a quick overnight in Manila and decided to stay at the Makati Shangri-La. The hotel is iconic in Manila, and while it may not be the most modern hotel, it is arguably one of the best known, together with the Peninsula. A host of new, more modern hotels have opened, including the Fairmont, the Raffles, the Shangri-La BGC, and the Conrad (which I recently reviewed) though the Makati Shangri-La remains well-regarded. I wanted to check it out for myself.

Easiest Way to Earn Star Alliance Gold Status in 2017

A few years ago, Aegean Airlines, a small Athens-based airline and a member of the Star Alliance, used to be the easiest airline to achieve Star Alliance Gold status. It required just 20,000 miles in one year on any Star Alliance partner to earn Star Alliance Gold status. A lot of people used this to earn the status this way, even though most, if not all, of their flying was with an airline other than Aegean Airlines. They then revised their eligibility requirements, requiring either 12,000 miles per year with four flights being on Aegean Airlines, or 24,000 miles per year, regardless of what Star Alliance carrier you are flying with.

Marriott’s Autograph Collection Adds 2 New Properties in Malaysia

The Autograph Collection is a collection of fully independent properties under the Marriott brand name. As they are a complete member of the Marriott brand, you can expect full Marriott Rewards benefits, which is a really great aspect of the brand. It can be nice to stay at more unique properties, as opposed to the regular Marriott or JW Marriott branded hotels, while still getting full benefits. Starwood has a similar brand called the Tribute Portfolio, which operates in the same way, as does Hilton with their Curio brand.

GHA Discover Loyalty Program: Get Loyalty Program Benefits At Independent Properties

While it may seem like every major hotel is part of a massive conglomerate, there are still quite a few that are not Hilton, Hyatt, Starwood, IHG, Accor branded. It gets increasingly more challenging to standout when you’re not part of a loyalty program as the benefits and points are a huge reason why many Read more about GHA Discover Loyalty Program: Get Loyalty Program Benefits At Independent Properties[…]
